Theft and Removal of Sandals

Scholars have stated that if one sees a man stealing and wearing their sandal, it may indicate that a man deceives his wife with his knowledge and consent. The interpretation of sandals varies by material and color: silver suggests a beautiful free woman, lead a weak woman, fiery a sharp-tongued one, and wooden a hypocritical, treacherous woman. Black sandals may symbolize a wealthy, prestigious woman; multi-colored ones, a confused woman. Those made of cowhide may represent a non-Arab woman; horsehide, an Arab woman; predator hides, a woman of tyrannical rulers; and linen, a chaste, eloquent woman who reads the Quran. It is said that removing sandals signifies safety and attaining authority, and Ibn Sirin interpreted losing sandals and finding them after hardship as seeking wealth and obtaining it with effort. He also interpreted walking in sandals as travel to Arab lands or symbolizing a brother, mentioning that a broken sandal strap might indicate a brother's separation during travel or his death.
