Entering the Sultan's Presence
Interpreters suggest that whoever dreams of entering the Sultan's presence may attain wealth and joy. The entry of a just Imam into a place indicates the descent of mercy and justice upon its people. The subjects confronting an unjust Sultan is seen as a weakness for the Sultan and strength for the subjects. The implications of the Sultan's attire vary: black increases his power, white enhances his splendor and indicates repentance, cotton signifies piety, humility, and security, wool denotes blessings and fairness, and brocade points to pharaonic deeds and ill conduct. Removing a cap or similar item indicates negligence in authority, while wearing it signifies fulfilling political duties. Wearing new slippers implies triumphing over the wealth of polytheists and dhimmis, flying with wings signifies power, and capturing people suggests acquiring wealth, conquering lands, and overcoming enemies.
