The Basin

Scholars have said that using a basin may indicate buying a slave girl, and her type varies with the basin's metal; copper refers to a Turkish girl, silver to a Roman, and gold to a beautiful woman demanding the impossible. It was also said that the basin symbolizes a sincere wife to her husband, while the 'batia' is a cunning slave girl, and the 'burma' is a man whose blessings are apparent to his neighbors. The pot might signify the value of the house, and the brazier (kanoon) the husband or wife.
