The Millstone
Scholars have indicated that seeing a millstone rotating may signify goodness and sustenance proportionate to the flour and water, or it could point to travel. If it rotates without wheat, it might symbolize strife, and if it rotates crookedly, it could foretell rising food prices. A hand mill might represent harsh partners. As for a broken millstone, there are two interpretations: either relief from worries or a sign of death. Furthermore, a grinding millstone may suggest gaining good from others' efforts, or it could symbolize war (the "mill of war" idiom).
